Upon request, Inner Peace Arts can teach traditional or foam padded weapons as a part of empty-handed training, or as a separate class. Inner Peace Arts is dedicated to keeping students well-informed, so we can design the right program for each group.
Tiger Cubs (Pre-School & Kindergarten) This program focuses mainly on the beginnings of proper footwork and arm motion using light drills and fun games. The children also get an opportunity to let out their frustrations and build their confidence by defending against padded props and striking padded targets. Little Dragons (Grades 1 & 2) The emphasis of this program is on good solid basics: stance and footwork, introductory grappling and elementary forms, including defense techniques. Students will learn what steps to take to avoid a confrontation. Students in this class will defend against padded targets, with some partner work without contact. Additional fun and games will help to reinforce basic techniques. | Youth (Grades 3 and up) Students will learn classical Okinawan katas (forms) and the subtle grappling techniques contained therein. Students will work with the teacher and other students to refine joint locks, take-downs and evades (everyone loves taking down the teacher!). Students will also practice basic blocks in a safe, out-of-range environment. Each student will practice slowly at first, speeding up gradually at his or her own learning pace.
